# Build from Source

Live Video Search depends on **VSS Search** and **Smart NVR** images. Follow the official build guides below and then use `REGISTRY_URL`/`TAG` to reference your built images.

The VSS dependency build must include `multimodal-dataprep`, `multimodal-embedding-serving`, and both backend flavors of Vector Retriever (`vector-retriever-vdms` and `vector-retriever-milvus`). Live Video Search always runs one Vector Retriever image; `VECTORDB_BACKEND` selects the flavor.

## Match Image Tags

Ensure `REGISTRY_URL` and `TAG` match the images you built or pushed:

```bash
export REGISTRY_URL=<registry-prefix>
export TAG=<image-tag>
```

To validate a locally built Milvus flavor, also set:

```bash
export VECTORDB_BACKEND=milvus
```
